Is iPhone 15 worth buying?
yes, iPhone 15 pro is nice.
iPhone15 and iPhone15 in-depth review:
"iPhone 15 is one of the most significant upgrades to iPhone ever. Smart Island, USB-C, 48MP camera, and more make it a joy to use."
Apple didn't change much with the iPhone 14 last year, which makes it worthy of being an upgrade over the iPhone 13 from two years ago. But the iPhone 15 comes with some pretty significant changes, including Smart Island, USB-C charging, a 48MP main camera, and an A16 Bionic chipset.
Do all these changes make the standard iPhone 15 worth buying? You better believe it.
iPhone 15: Design
On the surface, the iPhone 15 looks similar to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 that came before it. You get flat edges, an aluminum frame, a glass back, and a diagonal dual-camera layout. But the similarities end there.
Previous standard iPhone models had glossy glass backs, which I never liked. The smooth texture means it's always a fingerprint and smudge magnet.
Thankfully, the iPhone 15 eliminates this problem by using a new “color-infused” glass back, resulting in an incredibly beautiful matte finish. With this new matte glass, it's harder to see fingerprints, at least on the green model I received.
The frosted glass also seems to make the iPhone 15 easier to hold without a case. At least to me, it doesn't feel as slippery as other models. My only complaint about the "infused color" glass is that, for most of the range, the colors are very light and pale. It seems that pink looks the best, and green is not as bad as I originally thought. But blue looks particularly bad because it's so pale.
Additionally, unlike previous models, the edges of the iPhone 15 are a bit curved, so they're not as sharp as before. This is a welcome change as it does help make it more ergonomic to hold, especially when combined with the lightweight aluminum frame.
Unlike the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus still have a ring/silent switch, so the volume buttons and side buttons are unchanged.
iPhone 15: Screen
Christine Romero-Chan / Digital Trends
For the standard iPhone 15, we have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. The resolution is 1179 x 2556 pixels, the aspect ratio is 19:5:9, and the density is 461 pixels per inch (ppi). Normal brightness reaches 1,000 nits, and peak outdoor brightness reaches 2,000 nits.
The iPhone 15’s display looks pretty good. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the text is crisp and clear. For the average person, this display is great. But if you're using a Pro model with ProMotion, or even an Android phone, you might notice some janky scrolling and transition animations.
iPhone 15: Software and performance
Apple is releasing iOS 17 with the standard iPhone 15 models. Inside the iPhone 15 is the A16 Bionic chip introduced last year with the iPhone 14 Pro models, along with 6GB of RAM.
iPhone 15 also uses Apple’s new second-generation ultra-wideband chip, which allows you to guide you to find people who share their location with you through AirTag pinpoint search capabilities and more. However, this feature is only available on iPhone 15 models. Unless all your friends and family upgrade to iPhone 15, you probably won't be able to use this feature. I certainly can't do that now, but that may be different in the future.
iPhone 15: Camera
The iPhone 15 gets a surprising camera upgrade this year, bringing a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view (FoV). The ultra-wide-angle lens is unchanged from last year, which is a bit disappointing since it still doesn't have autofocus. The selfie camera remains 12MP as well.
Unlike last year's iPhone 14 Pro models, which could only shoot at full 48MP resolution using ProRAW and defaulted to 12MP for regular photos, the iPhone 15 defaults to 24MP photos. You can change it back to 12MP if you don't want the slightly larger file size of the 24MP image, but the 24MP photos do look better overall and the size difference is negligible.
You can still shoot at the full 48MP resolution if you really want to, but you'll need to enable the setting in the Settings app first. Honestly, the 24MP default should be fine for most people, while the 48MP should be reserved for those images you plan on printing, as the difference isn't terribly noticeable.
